While tears and sorrow are part of our humanity, there is an often-neglected prayer language in Scripture for our travels through a broken world: lament. Drawing on the work of N.T Wright, Timothy Keller and Gordon Smith - and in the context of a year like no other in living memory, this interactive, live online PD will explore:

  • The four elements of lament
  • Why lamenting is one of the most theologically-informed things a person can do
  • How to integrate this practice for effective grief and loss work with clients

Participants will receive: 

  • A 10-page downloadable reader

Data from a large number of good-quality studies supports cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and computer-aided psychological therapy (CAP) as the two most effective treatments for all types of anxiety.  This PD workshop explores these two approaches and evaluates them from a Christian perspective.

This live PD event will explore the connection between the mind and body by integrating mindfulness theory and techniques with narrative approaches in counselling therapy.

Understanding the somatic and linguistic expressions of a client's experience opens the possibility for them to know their body differently, learn to respond in alternative ways, and experience improved wellbeing. Drawing on the work of Katherine Thompson, Dr Kristen Neff, Ian Percy and others, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of mindfulness, including Christ-centred mindfulness, and learn practical applications of mindful attention
  • Learn about the importance of clients' somatic and cognitive experiences by exploring the role of meaning-making through language and storying
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how effective integration of mind and body experiences can result in improved wellbeing

Daring to hope in God: Integrating the biblical practice of lament to grief and loss work with clients.

Ross trained has completed a Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Family Therapy (Christian) and the Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Integrated Psychology (Spiritual). 

He works as a counsellor in private practice with a focus on couples counselling  and has served on the WA committee of the Christian Counsellors Association 
of Australia (CCAA) 
since 2016.

Max holds postgraduate qualifications in Psychotherapy and Counselling and in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.  He has over 15 years experience as a counsellor in a variety of settings including private practice, schools and allied health organisations.  

He has facilitated training nationally and overseas since 2006 and enjoys capacity building and equipping others to make a difference in their sphere of influence.

Danielle completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Spiritual) with aifc and is a practicing, registered counsellor and trainer and assessor.  

She has a keen interest in research in the field of eating disorders, and would love to see people within and outside the church be better equipped to understand the complexity of eating disorder presentations and the value of early intervention to improve outcomes. 

Angie is a registered counsellor and family therapist currently practicing in Canberra, ACT. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy from aifc and a Diploma of Theology from Charles Sturt University.  Angie has a special interest in the relationship between spirituality and mental health, and offers faith-integrated counselling to members of a wide range of Christian churches across the Canberra region.
