8 Tips To Get You Back Into A Work Routine - aifc

FEEL RESTED, MOTIVATED, ENERGISED AND READY WITH THESE 8 TIPS

Holiday breaks allow us to rest, relax and unwind from the hard work and long hours we put into our individual job roles. During our holiday breaks, we can fall out of our usual work routine. Returning to work is made easier with a little planning ahead. These 8 tips below can help you get organised.

1. Have a couple of early nights prior to returning to work

Most people need at least 8 hours of sleep. Productive people generally have established sleep routines enabling the to stay fresh and focused for the day ahead. Establish a sleep routine allowing your body to get accustomed to going to bed at the same time every night. Having a comfortable bed and pillow can make our sleep more restful. It’s very difficult to retain what you learn when you’re tired and sleep deprivation has a negative impact on health, impairs judgement affecting efficiency, causes fatigue and reduces the ability to handle stress. Sleep deprivation can increase the risk of having accidents. Hopping into bed early is a wonderful way to let our bodies feel rested and fully awake in the morning.

2. Eat healthily and drink plenty of water

A healthy diet and lifestyle with the consumption of nourishing foods help to build up the right kinds of energy that won’t deplete rapidly or make us feel sluggish. Keep up hydration levels by drinking loads of water helps to energise the brain and physical energy levels will rise.

3. Wake up early for exercise & prayer time in the morning

Morning prayer is a great way to start your day by keeping you disciplined in your relationship with the Lord. Also starting the day with light exercise can make us feel energised, invigorated and it speeds up the metabolism. Here are some things we can do:

  • ride a bike
  • walk the dog
  • go for a jog
  • visit the gym
  • have an early morning swim

4. Set your alarm for 2 reminders 30 minutes apart

Heavy sleepers can set an alarm that it rings twice at two separate half-hour intervals. Chances are that you will get up out of bed fast the second time. Heavy sleepers might require more sleep that may also mean going to bed even earlier.

5. Prepare the day ahead – get organised

Washing, ironing and hanging up work clothes for the week or even the night before and polishing our shoes is a great time-saver by us not having to do it in the morning.
Parents can prepare school lunches the day ahead where possible to save time in the mornings. Avoid leaving anything you need to do for the morning.

6. Shower the night before

Some people run on a very tight schedule and leave in the wee hours of the morning. Showering and washing hair the night before helps them save time and remain feeling fresh. Freshening up in the morning with a quick light wash helps us stay fresh without sacrificing on our hygiene and cleanliness.

7. What will you take to work?

Gather everything you need to take into work with you and place it in your vehicle or in your briefcase the night before. The key is to be prepared, feel good and be alert.

8. Be mentally prepared

Be prepared to start your day and get right into it. Write a ‘to do’ list with the things you will need to accomplish & start the day with a positive attitude.
