To be healthy, happy and mentally well we need to speak truth, use good words and have good and pure thoughts.

What can we do to achieve speaking happiness, thinking and heath?

Dr Caroline Leaf, author of ‘Switch on your Brain’– ‘The Key to Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health’, believes that we as individuals shape our own lives, shape our brains and our thoughts with our words.  She even goes onto say that our happiness depends on what we say and that we can choose to change.

“You cannot sit back and wait to be happy and healthy and have a great thought life; you have to make the choice to make this happen. You have to choose to get rid of the toxic and get back in alignment with God. You can be overwhelmed by every small setback in life, or you can be energised by the possibilities they bring.”

Most of us have heard the saying, “You aren’t what you eat. You are what you think!”  According to Christian Counselling and Family Therapy 3rd Ed.  ‘The Mind and The Thought Life’ there’s some truth to that saying.

Excerpt from ‘The Mind and The Thought Life’

“What goes on in the mind substantially determines the kind of person we are. Our thought life based on our beliefs controls our feelings and behaviour. What we feed upon we become. The Bible tells us, ‘As he thinks in his heart, so is he’ (Proverbs 23:7). While there is controversy about what this verse really means, the KJV and NKJV do translate it this way.”

“Some have argued that, at times, emotions come before thoughts. They refer to the fact that infants are able to feel before they are able to interpret their experiences.  An angry or hungry baby probably lacks the ability to cognitively interpret events, but nevertheless experiences the feelings. It is otherwise generally agreed that feelings follow thinking and beliefs. People mainly feel and behave the way they think and believe.”

Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

If you find it difficult to think good thoughts and say good things, you might want to consider seeking the help of a counsellor.
