How I Defeated My Post-Natal Depression - aifc
Reading Time: 2 minutes

When Hayley Solich suffered a bout of Post-Natal Depression (PND) after giving birth to her youngest child, she was a married 37 year old Christian woman with 4 children under the age of five.  As a mother Hayley put all her efforts into an extremely busy life, taking care of her new business and the four children. Through demands of that busy period that Hayley lost her sense of self.

Doing and giving too much lead to her depression. “What I realised was this… in this process of having children I had lost myself completely.”

Hayley’s husband had a prophetic dream Prior to my battle with depression my husband had a vision of me – I was going down to a dark well.”

Hayley was attending church and praying about her situation.  But, her healing didn’t come through that. Eventually it dawned on her that she was in God’s perfect will for her life, and that this experience was about her own personal, and spiritual growth. She also discovered that she had to be proactive in her own healing.

Hayley quickly gave the victim mentality the boot and kick-started the process of becoming well again.  Part of the process of getting better was to acknowledge that I was the key to my wellness….and if it was going to be, then it was up to me.”

Despite finding it extremely difficult to find joy in the middle of her despair while going through post-natal depession Haley found joy. In he hope that others find encouragement when going through the same situation Haley put out a tract with her story.

For an inside look at what it’s like to have PND and be encouraged with hope for healing, read Haley’s story here: Hayley’s Post Natal Depression Testimonial.

Note:  Hayley gave up her anti-depressants. It’s not recommended that others do the same without consulting their doctor as not every mental illness is the same, and no two cases are exactly alike.

Seek the support from a qualified counsellor or mental health worker when extra support is needed.
