Procrastination Could Be Robbing You Of Your Potential - aifc

We all have days when we want to put off task that need to be accomplished. At times we don’t care enough about the task ahead, however, there are times that we do care and still end up doing something other than what we are meant to do.

Why do we do it?

We have a choice to do something or nothing at all. How much we value the task that needs to be accomplished at that precise moment is called, ‘subjective value’. Procrastination happens as a result of choosing another task to do as more valuable than the task at hand.

To change our procrastination ways we must first change the way we value the thing we are meant to do. Learn to look at it another way by taking away the other task which is distracting you from the main one.

Devise a strategy to combat procrastination. However it can be difficult with little kids running around the house. T

Change your attitude to combat Procrastination

The first thing we need to do is to understand that all work requires effort.

Research has shown that people will opt to do the easy jobs rather than the more difficult or mundane ones to avoid the mental effort needed in completing the more difficult task.

The more difficult a job is the more likely that people will procrastinate. Most procrastinators don’t value having the job done ahead of time. The value of completing the task ahead lays in the reward of leaving it behind once completed, and being free to start another project.

Work can be broken down into more manageable segments and timeframes. It’s all about being organised and using time management skills to accomplish desired goals.

Connecting a project to core values or life goals can help a person be more productive.

Proverbs 13:4

“Lazy people want much but get little, while the diligent are prospering.”

“The longer I live, the more I realise the impact of attitude on life. “

Charles R. Swindoll

You might be looking for work now that the holiday break is over. Employers are always on the lookout for people with good strong work ethics.

Quality Focussed – this person strives for quality in what they do. The outcome of their work will almost always be successful.

A Team Player – teamwork is a huge part of any company and employers want someone on their team who knows this valuable skill and can apply it to meet objectives.

Discipline – dedicated workers have a high level of focus on their work and are able to meet deadlines.
