What were you doing before taking on study at aifc (eg, what line of work/study?)?
My husband and I managed Christian conference centres for a few years, then I had a break and I started working for Salvos counselling in 2013 and I’m still working there while studying.
Why did you decide to study Counselling?
It’s been a 20 year journey. I’ve continually had situations where I’ve been speaking to people going through tough situations and felt I wanted more skills to help them. Two years ago, the timing was just right to study counselling and I have a real passion for it.
What made you choose to study at aifc?
I wanted to study with a Christian organisation and aifc were the only provider offering a course that fit in with my life.
What would you like to do when you graduate?
I’d love to work in oncology and palliative care in a counselling role and hopefully eventually incorporate art therapy and music therapy.
What do you like about the course so far?
The tutors are very encouraging. It’s a challenge I’m really enjoying and my faith has been strengthened.
How is study fitting into your lifestyle?
It’s the only course that fit around my lifestyle. I can study when it suits me, making it possible to continue working.
Have you thought about becoming a qualified counsellor? It’s a great opportunity to learn how you can extend God's love and grace to the hurting out in the community.
