Master of Counselling

aifc, in partnership with the Australian College of Ministries, a member of Sydney College of Divinity, is proud to be offering a Higher Education Master of Counselling to follow on from the aifc 10900NAT Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Christian)

aifc’s 10900NAT Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Christian) has been intentionally developed to be the first phase of the Master of Counselling with ACOM/SCD. If studying full-time, you can complete the Master of Counselling in two years; part-time options are also available.

Entry into the Master of Counselling is via completion of the aifc 10900NAT Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Christian).

If you have completed the Graduate Diploma and want to know more about entry into the Master of Counselling, contact the Australian College of Ministries for course details and information on P: 1800 672 692
Or visit Master of Counselling

The counselling awards pathway created by aifc and ACOM/SCU is as follows:

  • Phase 1 (AQF level 5) CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling (aifc)
  • Phase 2 & 3 (AQF level 7) Bachelor of Counselling (ACOM/SCD)
  • Phase 4 (AQF level 8) 10900NAT Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Christian) (aifc)
  • Phase 5 (AQF level 9) Master of Counselling (ACOM/SCD)
I have completed the Graduate Diploma level course with aifc. Can I enrol into the Master of Counselling through ACOM/SCD?

Yes, aifc students who have successfully completed the 10900NAT Graduate Diploma of Counselling (christian) with aifc will be able to enter the Mater of Counselling with ACOM/SCD. The first year of the Master is the Graudate Diploma making it a two phase program. Students will need to meet the recommendation to continue requirements.

What is the difference between Vocational Education Training (VET) and Higher Education (HE)?

aifc is a VET provider, whereas ACOM/SCD is a Higher Education provider.  Both VET and HE providers offer qualifications that are nationally recognised. VET qualifications aim to provide a practical, work-oriented skills base, whereas HE has an emphasis on knowledge, theory, and the development of critical thinking skills. There are also differences in the grading and assessment process, with VET qualifications using competency-based assessment, and HE qualifications generally using a grading approach to assessment.

I’m not sure that I want to pursue all these courses. For now I am just enrolled in the Diploma course. Do I need to decide now

Students can choose to enrol in just one course and no more, and don’t need to decide on completing the full pathway in sequence.

aifc is pioneering a program of personal and professional development courses to equip students, alumni and the broader Christian community (both nationally and abroad) with shorter, non-accredited course options and workshops that are relevant, tailored and responsive to immediate needs.  The aifc equip program will provide online and short form face to face courses for people wishing to keep adding to their portfolio of transformational knowledge and skills, but who don’t necessarily want to go down the higher education path or commit to a long duration course (or at least not yet!).

Can I apply for FEE-HELP?

Students enrolled with ACOM can pay their fees upfront or access the Australian Government’s Fee-HELP system.

Fee-Help is a Commonwealth loan scheme that assists eligible students to defer all or part of their higher education tuition fees. Students wishing to utilise Fee-HELP should apply during admission, or contact registrar@acom.edu.au. To read more about Fee-HELP and check your eligibility go to https://www.studyassist.gov.au/.
