Masters of Counselling

In Partnership with one of Australia’s most prestigious Universities, aifc intends to offer a 1 year Masters of Counselling from 2018 onwards.

This course received in principle approval in November 2016 from the university’s Academic Board and is now in its final stages of development. The Course Development panel includes representatives from AIFC, PACFA the ACA and specialist academics. We anticipate formal course approval in March 2017 and hope to have attained PACFA and ACA recognition by mid 2017. Advertising will commence immediately following this for 2018 enrolments to commence in late 2017.

The course will be able to be completed by distance from anywhere in Australia although may require one or two clinical placements.   Students in Melbourne and/or Sydney will likely have access to a broader number of elective units through classroom study

Course Units

The following course outline is still under development but is likely to include:

  • Students will likely be required to complete 6 units at AQF level 9 (Masters) made-up of:
    • 2 units in Supervised Counselling Practicum including 70 hours of client counselling work covering at least 4 therapeutic approaches*
    • 4 elective units including
      • 1 Theology/Biblical studies unit
      • 3 Units in topics such as Pastoral Care/Counselling/Clinical Pastoral Education/Supervision**

NOTE:

* Students who wish to use the M Couns for entry into a PhD may be able to replace these units with a Research project.

** Students who wish to use the M Couns for ACA and/or PACFA recognition may need to chose from a reduced list of electives.
